#1: Top Business Books — Pro-Sumer Power II by Bill Quain

So today I want to talk about one of the top business books called Pro-Sumer Power II!: How to Create
Wealth by Being Smarter, Not Cheaper, and Referring Others to Do the Same
by Bill Quain, Ph.D. In summary, this is a business book aimed to change your mindset from being a consumer to a “pro-sumer” (producer + consumer). I recommend this book because it is cheap, and easy-to-read.

This book is approximately 100 pages long, and that definitely took me less than a week to finish. I started this book before my 4-day trip to Portland and finished it during my spare time in Portland. Because there is so much information compacted in the book, I suggest to read only a chapter a day to digest the contents of the book.

So, what’s the big fuss about this book?

It gives you a totally different perspective about consumerism. Quain described consumerism as a phenomenon that will only profit producers and not consumers. One of the examples I remember from the top of my head is the “greeters” marketing tactic used by a big-name company, Wal-Mart. He also lists out a few other surprising marketing skills companies use to get you, as a consumer to freeimage-4667142-webbuy, buy, and buy. Personally, as I was reading it, I do realize how creepy some companies may be. Becoming a consumer and falling into these business traps and tactic skills will only set you to failures. To resolve this kind of problem, he then defines a new concept called “pro-sumerism” which takes the advantages of both “producers” and “consumers.” As I finished the book, it really influenced me as not only an entrepreneur, but also a normal girl exposed to the consumerism society. There is, however, one thing I recommend you need to have before opening this book: a completely open mind. Without that, you might not enjoy this book as much as I have.

What’s in it for me?

As I will be graduating with a B.Sc. and a Business minor soon, I have been exposed to the idea of entrepreneurship. Because of that, I was open to anything that gives me a better understanding of entrepreneurship. As some of you might know, successful entrepreneurs do have completely different aspects of creating businesses. This book is definitely a stepping stone if you want to build towards that mentality. And if you ask me, all the points made in the book definitely makes sense in the business world.
